Questions & answers

Intention FAQs

Is Intention free?

Yes. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no trial that runs out.

What’s the catch?

There isn’t one. Intention is deliberately small: no account, no backend, no AI, and no cloud service I need to pay for. Everything lives on your iPhone, so there is no ongoing cost to pass on to you.

What is Intention for?

Getting things out of your head and deciding when you’ll deal with them.

Write something down with just a title. Later, when you have a minute, give it a place: today, a specific day, sometime this week, anytime, or maybe. When the time comes, Intention shows you what you decided.

Who should use it?

People who have more on their mind than they can hold, and want one calm place to put it.

If you want team collaboration, project management with dependencies, calendar automation, or an AI assistant reorganising your life, this isn’t that.

How does it work?

Capture. Add an intention with just a title. It goes to Unsorted, so you never have to decide anything while you’re in a hurry.

Plan. Choose when you mean to do it:

Today or a specific day, when you know the day.

This week, when you know the week but not the day.

Anytime, for things you will do, with no day chosen.

Maybe, for things you might do, or not.

Act. Today shows what you planned for today, what’s due, and what’s still open from earlier.

What’s the difference between a plan and a deadline?

A plan is when you intend to do something. A deadline is when it must be done.

They are separate on purpose. Moving a plan never moves a deadline, and setting a deadline never invents a plan.

What happens to things I planned and didn’t finish?

They stay open, with their original plan, under Still open. Intention doesn’t quietly push them to tomorrow or pretend you planned them for a different day. You decide what to do with them.

Does Intention have reminders?

Yes. Set a reminder on any intention and you get a notification at that time, if you allow notifications. From the notification you can complete the intention or snooze it for 10 minutes, an hour, or until tomorrow morning.

Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your iPhone.

Does it support repeating intentions?

Yes. An intention can repeat every few days, weeks, or months, either on a fixed schedule or counted from when you last completed it. You can skip an occurrence without breaking the series.

What are projects and areas?

A project groups the intentions that move one thing forward, with optional notes and a next move so you know where to pick up.

An area is a broader part of your life, such as Home or Work.

Both are optional.

What’s the difference between Complete, Discard, and Delete permanently?

Complete means you did it.

Discard means you decided not to. Discarded intentions can be restored.

Delete permanently removes a discarded intention for good. It can’t be undone.

None of these cascade. Completing a project’s intention never completes the project, and nothing is deleted behind your back.

Are there streaks, scores, or stats?

No. Intention records what you did, not how well you did it. No points, no streaks, no guilt.

Can I use it from the Home Screen, Lock Screen, or Siri?

Yes. Intention has widgets to add an intention or show a list, Control Center controls, Home Screen quick actions, and Shortcuts and Siri actions to capture an intention or open a list.

Does Intention sync with my calendar or other devices?

No. Intention doesn’t read or write your calendar, and there is currently no sync between devices. Your data stays on the iPhone where you created it.

Can I back up my data?

Yes. In Settings, Export backup saves a file with your intentions, notes, and projects to a place you choose. Import backup adds what is missing from a backup and never replaces what you already have.

Your iPhone’s own iCloud or computer backup also includes Intention’s data, as it does for other apps.

Does Intention work without internet?

Yes. Everything works offline: capture, planning, reminders, widgets, and backup.

Where does my data live?

On your iPhone. There is no Intention account and no Intention server. I never see your intentions.

Is my information private?

Intention is designed to need very little information in the first place. No account, no analytics, no tracking, and no reason for your plans to live on a server I control. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Is there an Android or iPad app?

Not right now. Intention is iPhone-only and needs iOS 26 or later.

Why did you build it?

I kept losing things in the gap between thinking of something and deciding when to do it. Most apps either want every detail up front or let everything pile into one endless list.

I wanted a place where capture costs nothing, planning is a separate and quick decision, and nothing moves unless I move it. So I built Intention.

Please do. Email me at abhishek@coffeeandjunk.com.
