Introduction
Intention, created by Abhishek Chakraborty, is a private iPhone app for capturing and planning what you intend to do. It has no accounts and no servers of its own. Your intentions, notes, and plans are stored on your iPhone and are not sent to me.
By using Intention you agree to this policy.
What Intention stores
Intention stores the information it needs to work, locally on your iPhone:
Intentions: the title, notes, checklist, plan, deadline, reminder, repeat rule, project or area, and whether each is open, completed, skipped, or discarded.
Projects and areas: project names, notes, and next moves, and area names.
App settings: simple local preferences, such as the first day of your week, whether reminders and the app icon badge are on, and whether you have completed onboarding.
Capture draft: the text you are typing in a new intention, so it is not lost if you leave the app.
Intention does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, calendar, photos, or other personal profile information.
Intention contains no advertising, advertising identifier, analytics SDK, tracking SDK, or third-party crash-reporting service. The app collects no usage statistics.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Intention schedules reminders on your iPhone for the intentions you set reminders on. It can also show a count on the app icon.
These are local notifications. Their contents, such as an intention’s title, are generated on your device and are not sent to me or to an Intention server. Depending on your iOS settings, notification contents may be visible on your Lock Screen.
You can turn notifications off at any time in Intention’s Settings or in iOS Settings.
Widgets, Siri, and Shortcuts
Intention’s widgets and controls show information from the app, such as the titles in a list. To do this, the app shares a summary with its widgets in storage on your iPhone. It does not leave your device.
If you use Siri or Shortcuts with Intention, Apple processes your request according to Apple’s privacy policy. Intention receives only the result, such as the title of a new intention.
Storage
Intention stores its data in a local database on your iPhone.
There is currently no Intention account, server database, or cloud sync. I do not receive or have access to your intentions.
Backups
Export backup creates a file with your intentions, notes, and projects and saves it wherever you choose. If you save it to a cloud service or share it, that service’s or recipient’s policies apply. I never receive the file.
Your iPhone’s own iCloud or computer backups may include Intention’s data. Those backups are managed by Apple and by you.
Internet access
Intention does not need an internet connection. Capturing, planning, reminders, widgets, and backups all work on your device.
Normal App Store and iOS services, such as downloading or updating the app, are provided by Apple and are governed by Apple’s policies.
Apple’s own reporting
If you have agreed to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may provide me with aggregate or anonymised information such as download statistics, app usage metrics, or crash reports.
That information is collected and provided by Apple, not by Intention. I do not use it to identify individual users, and it does not include your intentions.
Deleting your data
Delete permanently removes a discarded intention from the app’s local database.
Deleting Intention from your iPhone removes the app and its locally stored data, subject to how iOS handles device backups and app restoration. Backup files you exported stay where you saved them until you delete them.
Because Intention has no account or server-side copy of your data, there is no separate account or cloud data to ask me to delete.
Security
Your Intention data stays on your iPhone and benefits from the protections provided by iOS, including your passcode and device encryption.
There is no Intention server holding copies of users’ data to breach. No method of electronic storage is completely secure, however, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
Children
Intention does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app has no accounts, analytics, advertising, or server-side data collection, I do not receive information that identifies its users.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if Intention’s features or data practices change, for example if sync between devices is added. Any updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date.
